Hello world!

So, here we are.

I have to admit, I’m something of a nervous wreck.  Really.  I’m shaking right now.

This is a big step; nothing small here.  One small step?  No, one giant step for Randall, one unimagineable step for vampirekind.

That’s right, I said it.  The v-word.  The older ones don’t like it.  The young ones relish in it.  Me, I’m in between.  I’ve been a vampire for three decades, and that makes me just old enough to be considered ‘old’ by the neophytes, and yet still a ‘pup’ by those who can count centuries on this mortal coil.

No, really, there are vampires.  We do exist.  For at least two millenia we have – maybe more.  We’re just as unsure about the truths of our origins as you are about yours.  (And I apologize for that who you/we thing – we’re all humans, just different.)

Why am I here, why am I writing about this?  Surely you’re wondering that.  Well, I’ll touch upon it today – this is really something that will take posts to discuss, and that’s what this blog is going to deal with, as well as other factors.

The short of it is this:  there’s a movement, amongst the old and new of us.  It’s called V.A.M.P.  Yes, it’s a cliche – a cute acronym.  But it stands for Vampires Are Meaningful People.  Again, I’ll go into more details in the future, but there’s a movement amongst us to join the human world.  No, we can’t exactly go about in sunlight, but still, we can become a part of society.

We want to – at least those who are part of this movement do.

I’m not an official spokesperson for V.A.M.P.  I’m a member in good standing, and while they know what I’m doing, I’m doing this blog on my own.  I’m not here with their full support – the council members of V.A.M.P. are torn about this, to be honest… but I’m not waiting for them to politic it out.  The world is changing and I think we need to join it now!

So, first step… a public blog.

Now, let me establish something.  I’m not stupid.  My name… well, that’s not the name you can find me with.  It really is my given name, but I was reported dead in 1979 – a casualty of military action in Iran, if you must know.  Yes, I was a member of the United States Armed Forces.  No, I won’t go into any further details (at least not right now.  As time goes on, we shall see.)

But don’t think I’m going to give out glaring nuggets of info that you can hunt me down and drive a stake through my heart.  Oh, no, I’m not stupid.

This is a testing-the-waters thing.  I’m not looking to get hurt or worse.  I like being a vampire.  I like living and staying young.  My high school classmates are all old people – I went to our reunion a couple years ago and had to pretend that I was my own son!   It was hilarious seeing how old everyone had gotten…

But, I digress.

I’m trying to let you know what this blog is going to be about, why I’m here.  It’s going to be about (un)life.  The life of me, working amongst humans.  Yes, I have a job and I work with a bunch of beaters.  (That’s vampire slang for humans – your hearts still beat, and we can hear that.  It’s really easy to tell when someone’s a vampire.)  It’s going to be about the realities of being a vampire and hiding it and how fucking hard it’s getting to do so in the advancing technology and increased security in the United States.

It’s going to be about some facts of what being a vampire means.  It will touch upon the physical, mental, emotional and sexual aspects of being a vampire.  Obviously, this blog isn’t for kids.  It’s not going to be pornographic, but at times it will be graphic.

It’s going to be about vampire culture.  It’s going to be about human culture.  It’s going to be about where they mix and blend and where they don’t.

I’m hoping to get some friends doing this as well; if that happens, I’ll promote their blogs from here as well.

It’s going to be different.  Fun, at times.  Scary at times.  I hope that you’ll find it interesting, no matter what.
